Tommie Barkley is an author, filmmaker, and the Founder and CEO of Great Clouds Productions and Great CloudsTV. The Network, is airing 24/7 on Roku TV. He is the producer and host of the network’s flagship program, The Prophet in the Press Room. Through its magazine-style broadcast, Tommie’s media ministry is rapidly emerging as a prophetic news voice for communities, churches, and the nation.
Tommie is also the pastor and founder of The Sound From Heaven i Church, dubbed “The News Church” by Houston’s CBS 11 News Station for its on-location reporting and the exceptional work of its church intervention teams during Hurricane Katrina.
His latest initiative, The Media / Film / Vocational / Prophetic (MVP) Institute, trains and empowers individuals to transform life scars into success stories by equipping them with new career paths in television media, film production, entrepreneurship, and ministry.
In 2007, Tommie launched the highly successful Gold City Live, a gospel star-search television program featuring major recording artists and emerging talent. The show also provided community outreach services, including family crisis support and free legal assistance for those in need.
Earlier in his career, Tommie’s advocacy work took him to the White House in Washington, D.C., opening doors to meetings with U.S. Senators and congressional leaders on religious freedom initiatives. His rallies and outreach efforts fostered lasting relationships, mentoring, and support with influential leaders such as Rev. C. Anderson Davis, founder of the Houston Chapter of the NAACP and known as the “Godfather of Juneteenth,” former Houston Mayor Fred Hofheinz, and prominent businessman Fred D. Taylor.
In the 1980s, Pastor Tommie gained local and national media attention for his leadership of Real Rock Church and Drug Reform Home. At a time when crack cocaine was devastating communities nationwide, his program boldly became a champion of hope, birthing a revival movement that helped more than 5,000 men and women overcome addiction to crack cocaine, alcohol, and crime. The initiative received commendations and support from the Houston Police Department and leaders such as former Houston Mayor and U.S. Congressman Sylvester Turner, as well as the Southern Baptist Convention. Following a major Fox News feature, Pastor Tommie was invited to share his program and initiatives with leaders from other cities, school districts, and civic organizations. His documentary, The Way Back, aired on KLTJ Channel 22 and made a powerful impact by educating families on how to help loved ones overcome crack cocaine addiction.
Tommie studied Theology and Evangelism at Mt. Carmel School of Religion and is a graduate of the IBEW Local 716 Electrician Apprenticeship Program, earning Journeyman Electrician status. He also holds certification as an electronics technician from Elkins Institute, earned a Third-Class FCC License, and later trained as a Second-Class FCC license technician, specializing in broadcast engineering and aircraft communications equipment repair.
